Program Highlights:
- Undergraduate Research Internships in Genome Annotation:
- 18 IRSC students, from freshman to seniors, participated in training and genome annotation. The annotation team meets once weekly with instructors, and a second meeting for peer mentoring.
- Training resources and videos were developed. Available here
- Students prepared 14 presentations for scientific conference at: Florida Phytopathological Society, Florida Academy of Sciences, Biodiversity Genomics, International Electronic Conference on Entomology.
- Students contributed to 5 peer review manuscripts and 5 pre-print publications.
- Students attended professional webinars from USDA-NAL on genome annoation and InnovATEBIO (NSF)/Cold Spring Harbor on agricultural biotechnology program.
- Instruction materials, PowerPoints and worksheets were developed to match learning outcomes of the CURE.
- CURE is currently being implemented in BSC4434: Introduction to Bioinformatics. Students are annotating the GST gene family.
- The Citrus CURES project was selected to participate in the national EvaluateUR-CURE NSF funded CURE assessment program.
